Dumpster Rental Extensions, Overages & Swap-Outs: What Lexington, KY Customers Should Know
Dumpstar Hauling's standard rental periods run 1-3, 5, or 7 days, with pricing tiers to match. Need more time? Extensions are available for $20 per extra day beyond your selected tier, and if your project runs for weeks rather than days, we offer scheduled swap-outs — picking up a full container and dropping a fresh one — so your job site stays clean without interrupting work. Call ahead if you think you'll need extra time.

Need More Time? How Extensions Work
Projects run long — that's normal, and it's not a problem. If your rental period is about to end and you're not quite finished, extensions run $20 per additional day beyond your selected tier. There's no penalty for asking, and the earlier you call, the easier it is for us to simply leave the container in place rather than needing to work around a scheduled pickup.
If you're not sure how much extra time you'll need, it's fine to extend a day or two at a time rather than committing to a longer period upfront — you're only billed for the extra days you actually use.
Long Projects? Ask About Swap-Outs
For multi-week jobs — full renovations, larger construction projects, or ongoing cleanouts that generate more debris than a single container can hold — a swap-out is usually the better option instead of just extending one container indefinitely. We pick up your full dumpster and drop an empty one in its place, often the same day, so your job site never sits full and blocked while you wait.
Swap-outs are common on contractor job sites where debris accumulates steadily over time rather than all at once. If you know upfront that your project will likely need more than one container, mention it when you book so we can plan the first swap-out date with you.
Avoiding Overage Fees (Different From Extension Fees)
It's worth keeping these two separate in your head: extension fees($20/day) apply when you keep the container longer than your rental tier. Overage fees($100 per ton) apply separately if your debris exceeds the container's weight allowance — 2 tons for the 14-yard, 2.5 tons for the 20-yard — regardless of how many days you keep it. A project can run into one, both, or neither depending on how it goes, so it helps to know which one you're actually asking about when you call.

Extensions & Swap-Outs — Quick Answers
What happens if I go over my rental period without calling first?
Give us a call as soon as you realize you'll need more time. It's always easier to handle an extension proactively than to sort it out after the fact.
Is there a maximum extension length?
Not really — plenty of contractor jobs extend for weeks at a time. For very long projects, a swap-out schedule is usually more practical than one continuous extension.
Do swap-outs cost extra beyond a normal exchange?
Each swap-out is essentially a new rental period for the fresh container, priced the same as your original rental. Ask for specifics when you schedule the first swap so there are no surprises.
